Congratulations to all who participated over the weekend of December 2nd & 3rd – it was encourag-ing to see the amount of study that had gone into being prepared for their exams. The format for the weekend resulted in the technical exams being conducted on the Saturday with Kata taking place on the Sunday.

2023 Japan New Zealand Budo Cultural Exchange

On Sunday 12 November there will be on-line demonstrations involving Japan and New Zealand to promote international understanding, dissemination, and promotion of Budo and to contribute to the friendship and goodwill between Japan and New Zealand.

2023 World Veterans Championships

Three players, John Maxwell (NEL CD) M6 -90kg, Melody Scott (CAN CA) F6 -70kg, and Vitaly Aliluev (UNI AK) M6 -100kg, joined over 1000 competitors who had entered from all corners of the world, from as far flung as Angola (with 17 players) across to New Zealand and up to the Faroe Islands along with another 60 countries in between at the competition.

Japanese Ambassador Visits National Championships

Judo New Zealand were pleased to host Ambassador Mr Koichi Ito and Ms Misako Ito attending the National Judo Championships on 7th October held at Te Rauparaha Arena, Porirua. The Ambassador and his wife presented medals to the successful Judoka on Saturday. They enjoyed seeing one of their countries long heritage sports being done in New Zealand.

NZL Referees Represent In Calgary

Diane Limbrey (WEL-WN) and Craig Bartlett (HOW-AK) were selected to referee at the Cadet, Junior and Senior Panamerican - Oceania Championships held in Calgary, Canada on 8, 9 and 15-16 September respectively and the teams competitions held for all three competitions on 10 and 17 September.

Oceania Kata Seminars and Championship

From Tuesday 29 August to Saturday 2 September, four New Zealand Judoka, Bill Vincent (Hachidan and Oceania Kata Director), Neisha Brooking (Waikato Bays Judo Association), Sam Manu and Palilaving Phouphayly (Wellington Judo Association), all attended the Oceania Kodokan Kata Seminar 2023 in Brisbane, Australia. After a long 5 year hiatus, it was great to be back with new and old friends doing Judo and developing a higher understanding of its nuances though the study of Kata. The kata studied were Kodokan Goshin Jutsu, Kime no Kata, Ju no Kata, Katame no Kata and Nage no Kata. It is hoped that Itsusu
